Tet Festival of the Kinh HCM
15/01/2010 - 15/02/2010
Place: Ho Chi Minh City
Tet is an occasion for pilgrims and family reunions. It normally lasts from four days to one week at the end of lunar year (around mid January to beginning/mid February of the western calendar). Visiting flower markets is considered the most exciting custom as people in the north will decorate their house with a ‘Kum quat” tree, while people in the south will decorate their home with yellow apricot blossoms.
There are various other customs practiced during Tet such as ancestral worshiping, visiting a person’s house on the first day of the New Year, wishing Tet wishes, giving lucky money to young children and older people, wishing longevity to their elders, opening rice paddies or opening a shop.
